Manchester Cathedral is one of the most interesting Cathedrals in the country, after surviving the IRA bomb and acquiring one of the oldest buildings in the city it was decided to be the first Cathedral in the country to have a Visitor Centre. The Centre was designed to have a full multimedia exhibition, conference facilities, a shop and a restaurant in the basement which was to house the only medieval scheduled monument in Manchester, the Hanging Bridge. We were asked to produce a web site to replace the mostly outdated current site which was produced when the Centre opened. The brief was short, get more people through the door! With all the different areas of business that the Centre undertakes we knew the hardest part would be ease of use. We produced a site map which catorgorised all of the pages into 7 main groups, helping to show off each part in its own separate area. Sub pages where created to contain the information and a basic layout designed. The layout is quite simple, menu on the right, header at the top left and a selection of images finish off each page on the right. This means every page can be shown off in its own way. Images above the menu change to relate to the section currently being visited and sub menus appear only on the section the customer is viewing. After the initial site launch the MD of the Centre asked us to look into online bookings for the highly popular Conference Centre. We wrote a script which when filled out by a client produced and emailed the Centre (and the client if requested) a completed booking form, this helped to reduce retyping errors in bookings. We also created a mailing list which is sent out twice a month, listing availability for the next month, which has brought in quite a lot of new bookings which maybe wouldn't have come to light. We have also produced business cards for the Centre and a large banner which is in the actual Cathedral to advertise what the Centre has to offer the public, and how to get there. This has visibly attracted more customers to the Centre. Produced for Manchester Cathedral Visitor Centre:
